House #96 Nears Completion: A New Chapter for Melissa Knuckles and Her Family

As spring blossoms across Billings, so does a new beginning for Melissa Knuckles and her family. House #96, a symbol of hope, perseverance, and community, is nearing completion — and with it comes a long-awaited promise of safety, stability, and opportunity.

A Dream Taking Shape

Melissa, a hardworking mother dedicated to providing a better life for her children, has faced her share of challenges. But through unwavering determination and the support of Habitat for Humanity Mid-Yellowstone Valley, her dream of homeownership is becoming a reality. House #96 isn't just another build on the map — it’s a home crafted by compassion, sweat equity, and community spirit.

Over the past several months, Melissa has committed herself to completing her partnership hours — working alongside volunteers, staff, and even future neighbors to help build not only her house but others in the Habitat community. Her hands have helped frame walls, paint trim, and clean up construction sites — each task a personal investment in the foundation of her family’s future.

More Than Bricks and Mortar

For Melissa and her family, House #96 means so much more than shelter. It means:

  • Stability: No more bouncing between rentals or worrying about rising costs. This home offers a dependable place to grow roots.
  • Security: Her children will have a safe space to thrive — a backyard to play in, a quiet room to study, and a neighborhood to belong to.
  • Empowerment: Homeownership provides long-term financial security and a chance to build equity. It’s an investment in her family’s future.

“I want my kids to know what it feels like to grow up in one place — to have memories tied to a single home, a neighborhood, a front porch,” Melissa shared. “This house means we finally have that.”

Made Possible By Generosity

The progress of House #96 would not be possible without the incredible generosity of our Joint contributing sponsors — Phillips 66 and Wells Fargo. Their commitment to building stronger communities through corporate citizenship and social responsibility continues to create lasting change in the lives of families like Melissa’s.

Through their support, we were able to provide materials, resources, and skilled guidance essential to the construction process — helping ensure a high-quality, energy-efficient, and beautiful home.

Community at Work

House #96 was also supported by a network of local volunteers, donors, faith groups, and civic partners who believe in the transformative power of a home. From the groundbreaking ceremony to the final coat of paint, this house reflects what can be accomplished when people come together with purpose and heart.

As we approach the final stages of the build, excitement fills the air. Soon, Melissa will walk through the front door of her very own home — not as a visitor, but as an owner. And as she turns the key, she’ll be opening the door to a future built on strength, stability, and self-reliance.

Join the Journey

Melissa’s story is one of many that remind us why Habitat for Humanity exists. As we celebrate the nearing completion of House #96, we invite you to be part of the next chapter — whether by volunteering, donating, or spreading the word.

Together, we’re not just building homes — we’re building a better future, one family at a time.
